AM/PM Supervisor

Qualifications

The AM/PM Supervisor plays a key role in ensuring the safety of all children in the daycare center and making it a place where children enjoy spending time. The incumbent should have the skills and ability to communicate professionally and effectively and show kindness, patience, and care for others while working at the IHDC. They should be able to show strong signs of leadership and manage a diverse group of children and staff. The Supervisor must be skilled at Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Adult and Child First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) routine emergency treatments. We may be required to complete Medicine Administration Training (MAT) to assist with administering medication to children as needed in our care. In addition, the Supervisor must be highly organized, prompt, trustworthy, responsible, and detail-oriented.

Responsibilities 

The AM/PM Supervisor will be responsible for the ongoing day-to-day operations of the center in the absence of the Executive Director or Assistant Director. Duties include:

  • Managing staff, collaborating with parents, and interacting with children 
  • Monitoring and observing the daily operation of the classroom for safety, positive reinforcement, and productive educational activity. 
  • Preparing daily classroom lessons that are age- and stage-appropriate activities that will meet the children's physical, emotional, intellectual, and social needs that support IHDC’s curriculum.
  • Monitoring and completing regular assessments of each child’s development, and maintain appropriate documentation. 
  • Oversee the performance of Head and Assistant Teachers and assist with their planning and classroom management.
  • Addressing and documenting all children's issues, concerns, and problems with the classroom teachers, Directors, and parents by establishing and maintaining professional and positive relationships. 
  • Assisting with serving snacks and lunches provided by the parents while monitoring dietary requirements for individual children,
  • Conducting diapering and toileting, adhering to appropriate procedures at all times 
  • Administering medication to children within medication administration training guidelines as needed
  • Performing light cleanings such as gathering trash, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, sanitizing toys tabletops, kitchen prep area, and bathrooms
  • Answering phones professionally and relay messages to the Director and Assistant Director, 
  • Opening and closing the center when needed.
  • Must be able to bend and lift children over 5 lbs.

The AM/PM Supervisor is responsible for reporting any suspicion of child abuse or neglect to the appropriate party for follow-through, participates in required training programs, conference, courses, and other aspects of professional growth, and will adhere to all established policies, procedures, regulations, and code of ethics. 


Education

The ideal candidate will meet the minimum education of a high school diploma or equivalent, have two years of related experience, or be trained in a childcare setting or equivalent combination of education and experience. All incumbents must meet all state and local requirements, including Social Service and State Background checks.

Compensation

This position is an hourly position. Compensation and hours will be discussed at the interview and vary depending on experience, availability, and qualifications.

Qualifications  

This position will be responsible for performing as a classroom teacher in the general supervision and management of the children. Must have received, be in the process of receiving, or be willing to receive some classroom training in the education and development of young children, thus becoming professionally prepared to supervise young children and meet the licensing agency's requirements.   Must relate well to children, parents, and other employees, have a warm and friendly personality, and work harmoniously with other staff members.   

The person in this position must be at least 18 years old. They must be able to lift, hold, or carry any enrolled child who weighs up to 35 pounds.

  • Must be able to speak clearly and communicate distinctly in emergencies, group situations, or on the telephone.  
  • Must be able to read at a level sufficient to read prescriptions, medicine labels, stories to children, and file records.
  • Must communicate with parents and employees in writing and at a satisfactory level to complete forms for documentation of accidents, first aid treatment given, and other observation forms required by the Center.
  • Must have experience working with groups of young children. 
  • Must relate well with children and adults (parents and other staff members)  
  • Must have the ability to supervise one or more assistant teachers.
  • Must be willing to fulfill responsibilities following Inspiration House Day Care's mission and the IHDC Handbook. 

Responsibilities                          

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Greeting parents
  • Supervising children, including playground activities, assisting with snacks and lunch duties, general housekeeping duties, and kitchen detail, as assigned.  
  • Planning and implementing the daily program
  • Treating children with dignity and respect
  • Recognizing and considering each child's needs based on cultural and socio-economic background, disabilities, special talents and interests, style, and pace of learning.
  • Helping children learn to think creatively, solve problems independently, and respect themselves and others.
  • Maintaining daily activities, including changing diapers, feeding, playing, reading, and rocking infants; keeping accurate charts; cleaning highchairs, shelves, and play areas; and disinfecting toys.
  • Helping with meals and preparation of snacks
  • Maintaining professional attitude, behavior, and dress while on duty. 
  • Using the proper channels of communication to discuss problems and complaints.
  • Attending all staff meetings and programs sponsored by the Center.
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality regarding children, their families, and co-workers.
  • Promoting a good rapport among staff members.
  • Working with other teachers to maintain a clean facility.
  • Attending outside workshops when appropriate
  • Being security conscious by ensuring that facility doors are always secure and never sharing security passwords with those not authorized to have them 
  • Immediately reporting to the Executive Director any suspicious person and vehicles on the grounds of the Center.

Other Requirements

Pregnant employees working in classrooms where diaper changing is a part of the duties must submit a written statement from a physician that the employee may continue working in a childcare environment.

 

Employees shall be free of contagious illness and able to handle food services, including, but not limited to, snacks and meals and social functions (i.e., birthday celebrations) associated with the Center as part of job duties.
